Barnebirkie 2010

The Barnebirkie will be held on Thursday, February 25, at 12:30 PM. Over 1000 children ages 3 to 13 will participate in the ski event. The Fifth District will continue to work with the Birkebeiner Association in helping with the event.

This year, as in the past, lodge's and members can participate! Volunteers will help at the starting line, registration, awarding medals as the skiers cross the finish line, working the cookie tent, and whatever else is needed! If you or other lodge members can volunteer, please email or return the Volunteer Form. There is information about the Birkebeiner and Barnebirkie at www.birkie.com. Hotel and maps are also available on that website.

The Fifth District Sons of Norway Lodges will again be supplying cookies to satisfy appetites of the skiers and spectators alike. If your lodge can donate cookies, we would like you to put them in sturdy, non-returnable containers (shoeboxes, ice cream pails, coffee cans work well). Please have a sheet with the name of your lodge and the number of dozens of cookies you have. If you need a way to transport your cookies to Hayward, please contact your Zone Director or me, to arrange a pick-up. Monetary contributions should be sent to Ray Knutson, District Treasurer, and identified for Barnebirkie.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact District Recreation Director Dave Hermundson. Watch the District 5 Sons of Norway website for more information about the event and a possible orientation meeting on Wednesday.
