Programs and Activities
Monthly meetings Last Thursday of the Month except June, July, and August. A short business meeting begins the evening to bring the members up to date. Then comes a Social or Cultural Program, followed by a light lunch and a chance to visit with fellow members.
Newsletter Published 6 times a year with Lodge news and Norwegian articles.
Adopt-a-School Program Lodge members volunteer at local schools talking about Norwegian life, or, growing-up in America and the changes they have seen in their lifetimes.
Kaffe Stue Held on the third Saturday in July, in conjunction with Mount Horeb’s Annual Art Fair. Those that hanker for some good Norwegian food come to the Community Center where we host the Kaffe Stue. The general public can sample genuine foods of the old country, such as lefse, sotsuppe, rommegrøt, sand-bakkle, smørbrod, and more.
Frokost Norwegian Fall Breakfast is held at the Mount Horeb Area Community Center and is open to the general public. The event, held in conjunction with the Mount Horeb Fall Festival on the first Saturday in October, gives the opportunity to share Norwegian culture and heritage with friends and neighbors. The menu can consist of such items as Norwegian pancakes, heart waffles with lingonberries, aebleskiver, soft or hard-boiled eggs, rollepølse, lefse, breads, ham, dried beef, salami, cheeses, herring, salmon, fruit salad, coffees, and Norwegian cookies and cakes. Other Activities Christmas Party Held on the first Saturday in December, this old fashioned Norwegian Christmas celebration is for the family. Watch for Santa Claus to make an appearance. Scholarship This award is given to an outstanding student in the area to help further their College Education. The members of Sons of Norway Vennelag 513 invite you to join them at their monthly Meeting held on the last Thursday of the month (except June, July, and August) starting at 7:00 pm at the Mount Horeb Area Community Center. Plan to come a little early and socialize.
