Idun Lodge Annual Scandinavian Scholarship Recipent

Lydia Taylor, received the Sons of Norway Idun Lodge Annual Scandinavian Scholarship last spring, which allowed her to study abroad in the Norway International Summer School at the University in Oslo.

Lydia is a senior at UW Madison, majoring in psychology and getting a certificate in Scandinavian Studies. She grew up in Lake City, MN, with her parents and younger sister, Alice. She comes from a family that has both Norwegian and Swedish heritage, and has always felt a strong connection. She hopes to help preserve the Scandinavian American culture, may that be through future jobs or volunteer work.

Idun Lodge's Annual Scandinavian Scholarship...  We give out one scholarship each year to a student chosen from the Department of German, Nordic and Slavic at UW-Madison (awarded at our Syttende Mai banquet). This student will attend one of the Department's study programs in Norway (either a semester or the summer session in Oslo).

Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship Recipient

Hello Ms. Fairchild,
Here is my story:

As the recipient of the Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship, I am incredibly thankful toward the Sons of Norway Foundation for investing in my education so I have the ability to concentrate my effort on my studies. I have chosen to attend Iowa State as a chemical engineering major not only because I genuinely love studying math and chemistry, and enjoy problem solving, but also because I have a passion for the people I can someday help with this major. After I earn my bachelor’s degree, I plan to work toward my doctorate, specializing in pharmaceutical development. Throughout the years, I have watched close family members suffer through countless harsh diseases: heart disease, autoimmune disorders, diabetes, and every type of cancer imaginable, unable to receive or afford proper treatment. My dream is to work in this industry and find a way to make the necessary medicines more affordable and more widely available to patients who have so little hope. Sons of Norway has blessed me beyond I can express by partnering with me as I pursue my education and I cannot wait for the day when those who have sacrificed financially for my education can receive a return on their investment in the form of pharmaceutical treatment for a loved one, or even for themselves.

Thank you once again,
Danielle Eeg
